A Very Special Friend

Three weeks ago we were asked to pick up a Pug named Sophia. She had had a couple of accidents in the house, and her owners put her out in the backyard to stay until we picked her up. She was listless when we picked her up, and within a day she began vomiting. We rushed her to the emergency veterinary hospital and she was diagnosed as diabetic.

Many vets don't think to look for diabetes when a Pug manifests Sophia's symptoms. The results of missing that diagnosis can be fatal. Had Sophia's condition gone untreated much longer, she would have been dead. As it was, she was severely dehydrated and had almost no remaining muscle mass. She had to spend over a week in the hospital on I.V. fluids. Now, with a regulated daily dose of insulin, she is gaining weight and spending a lot of time cuddled up to her foster mommy.

Sophia is the fifth diabetic Pug that Little Angels has rescued. The special babies who came before her all found the perfect new loving home. Cleo and Shawna are being lavished with love by the Runkles in Santa Clarita. Roxy is the queen of Elizabeth Vienneua's heart in Los Angeles. Angel has now gone to Pug Heaven but spent the years she had with dedicated owners, surrounded by love and care.

Sophia's first week of treatment ran more than $1,000 and her continuing care is likely to cost $50.00+ each month. Your Special Friends donations will help us to begin to pay off Sophia's large vet bill and fund her on-going treatment. Please help us help Sophia.
